Sam Sezak

Sam is a partner at Blue Heron Capital, a lower market and growth equity stage private equity fund. ┬áPrior to Blue Heron, Sam served as portfolio manager for New Vantage Group, a private equity manager of angel investment groups, fund of funds, and cross border venture funds. In addition, Sam has lectured and consulted on the topic of early stage and angel investing in Central and South America and Eastern Europe and he co-founded a real estate development company in SE Europe. Early in his career Sam worked for Merrill Lynch’s Global Markets and Investment Banking Division. After college Sam spent several years in Ukraine and in Poland, first as a US Peace Corps Volunteer and then as a Consultant, where he advised foreign investors looking to enter the marketplace, co-managed a European-funded tourism development project, developed and delivered customer service training programs for hotel and restaurant managers, and worked with government officials and local entrepreneurs to organize multiple marketing cooperatives. He serves on the board of Goals Haiti, a kids and youth sport-for-development program, and as an advisor to Agora Partnerships, a non-profit committed to supporting entrepreneurs in Central America.

Sam holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Cornell School of Hospitality Management and a Masters of Business from Georgetown University. Sam and his wife Maureen reside in Portland, Maine with their two sons Tommy and Sammy. Sam enjoys staying active with hockey, surfing, mountain biking, and skiing. He is active with small business development initiatives in the State of Maine and emerging markets primarily in Haiti, Central America, and Eastern Europe.
