Eric Young


Eric Young co-founded Canaan Partners, an industry-leading early stage venture capital investment firm, in 1987.  Since then, he has led the successful investment outcomes in numerous startup companies, including:

  • Consumer: Ebates
  • Enterprise: Diffusion Software, Frame Technology, Lanscope, Sandforce & Visigenic Software
  • Networking: Argon Networks, Copper Mountain Networks, Cortina Systems, International Network Systems, Kapana, Octel & ONI Systems
  • Power: Captstone Turbine, Enpirion & Spectrian

Currently, Eric concentrates on innovation in enterprise technology, particularly in cybersecurity.  Recently, he led the sale of Canaan portfolio company, Lancope, to Cisco Systems.  In addition, Eric serves as a Director at Verance (securing streaming media) and Xirrus (secure wireless networks).  He is also serves on the Steering Committee for Sinet, the cybersecurity industry thought leadership group.

Prior to starting Canaan, Eric was a SVP at GE Venture Capital.  Earlier, Eric held several sales, marketing and operations management positions within various GE industrial product businesses.

Eric earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from Northwestern University.  An advocate of promoting entrepreneurship within the Cornell community, he is an Advisory Council member of Entrepreneurship at Cornell, the Engineering College Council and Cornell Silicon Valley Advisors, as well as being a frequent lecturer on the Ithaca and NY campuses.
