Biotia Launches Clinically Approved Antimicrobial Resistance Test for Complicated UTIs

Red Bear Angels portfolio company Biotia has announced the clinical deployment of BIOTIA-DX Resistance, its antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiling technology, now integrated into the company’s New York State Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP)-approved BIOTIA-ID Urine Test. The launch marks a significant advance in precision diagnostics for patients suffering from recurrent or complicated urinary tract infections (UTIs).

The integrated test enables comprehensive pathogen detection and resistance prediction directly from urine samples, helping clinicians select the right antibiotic at the time of diagnosis rather than relying on broad-spectrum empiric therapy. Biotia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Dorottya Nagy-Szakal, noted that faster, more accurate resistance guidance can reduce patient suffering, prevent hospitalizations, and help stem the global rise of antibiotic resistance.

Adding further external validation, Biotia’s BIOTIA-DX Resistance tool won Best AMR Phenotype Prediction at the 2026 CAMDA Challenge — an international computational benchmarking competition — for the second consecutive year. The test is currently available for clinical use across all 50 U.S. states through Biotia’s CLIA-certified lab in Queens, New York.
